The European Neuroscience Institute (ENI) in Budapest is embedded in the Institute of Experimental Medicine, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (IEM). The IEM has recently joined the Network of European Neuroscience Institutes and committed itself to establish two new independent research groups. The first research group was established earlier this year and applications are now invited for the second group-leader position with an application deadline of 1st December 2009 and a potential starting date of Spring/Summer 2010.

ENI-IEM aims at fostering the career development of outstanding young scientists in the area of molecular, cellular or systems neuroscience. The goal of this initiative is to provide exceptionally talented junior scientists with the opportunity to establish their independent research programs in a stimulating research environment. The applicants should have a doctoral degree in neuroscience, postdoctoral experience, and evidence for outstanding research potential. The successful candidate will receive a 5-year financial award to cover her/his own salary, that of a postdoctoral scientist and a research assistant. The appointee will also receive a start-up fund of 25 million HUF (~100 000 EUR) for purchasing laboratory equipment. In addition, she/he will be eligible to use the central facilities and infrastructure of the Institute, including the animal house, transgenic center, virus laboratory, electron microscopy laboratories, confocal laser scanning microscope, and the isotope laboratory. Finally, the Appointee will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with the faculty members of the IEM and the Network of European Neuroscience Institutions (see: http://www.eni-net.org).

During the 5 year tenure, the successful applicant is expected to develop her/his own research program and independent research group. She/he is encouraged to compete for extramural funding from national and international sources.

Applications should be addressed to the Search Committee for the ENI-IEM (1083 Budapest, Szigony street 43, HUNGARY; http://www.koki.hu). The applicants should include their curriculum vitae, short summary of their past accomplishments and future research plans, and the names and contact information of three references. Electronic submission of a single pdf file is encouraged and should be sent to the director of the institute, Prof. Tamás F. Freund (freund@koki.hu).

The Institute of Experimental Medicine, Hungarian Academy of Sciences is an equal opportunity employer.
